I want to look at the grid arrangement of the website, the idea is to have the arrangement shown in Figure 3.20 (reproduced below as Figure 8.1):
The main site will have the three column layout based on a five column Gerstner grid arrangement; there will be a single width column on each side and a central column that will span the three remaining columns in the middle.
That said, I want a bit more flexibility. If I’m going to write the code for one arrangement, why not make it flexible enough to handle any arrangement of Gerstner grid columns — this will make the code much more useful and adaptable.
And that is what I will do; the whole grid arrangement will be stored in its own CSS file called (imaginatively) grid.css.
